Last year, it was confirmed that it was testing lower-priced products in the United States, Australia, and Thailand.YouTube Premium Lite Subscription Plan, earlier by GoogleAnnounceIt will be officially launched in the United States and will be priced at US$7.99 per month (approximately NT$262.37). Compared with the YouTube Premium that has been promoted since then, which is currently priced at US$13.99 per month, it is obviously much cheaper.
Australia, Thailand and Germany, which were also previously tested, are expected to open subscriptions in the coming weeks. Google also plans to expand the YouTube Premium Lite subscription plan to more countries and regions later this year.
In the YouTube Premium Lite subscription plan, most video content such as games, fashion, beauty, news and podcasts will not have advertisements, but music, music videos or short video content will display advertisements. In addition, advertisements will also appear when browsing YouTube video columns and using search functions.
YouTube's Chief Product Officer, Johanna Volich, said that while most users want an ad-free, uninterrupted viewing experience on YouTube, some users won't consume music-related content uploaded to YouTube. The idea behind the YouTube Premium Lite subscription plan is to address this need. Only music, short videos, and other content will be supported by ads, but most other content will be viewed without ads. Google will also profit from ads, allowing more creators to earn revenue through advertising revenue sharing.
In addition to the appearance of some advertising content, the YouTube Premium Lite subscription plan also does not allow for video downloads and background playback, which are currently only available with the YouTube Premium subscription plan.
