Google's obsession with using AI across all its services seems limitless. Following previous tests on the YouTube platform..."Playables" mini-game featureEarlier, YouTube Gaming announced an open beta program called "Playables Builder".
This tool importGoogle's latest Gemini 3 modelThis allows YouTube creators to create simple web games simply by talking, even if they don't know anything about coding.
Continuing the experimental spirit of Google Labs, this time it's games' turn.
This prototype web application, named Playables Builder, shares a core concept similar to Google Labs' recent Disco and GenTabs projects. The latter allows users to input natural language, and the browser generates interactive widgets or information curation; Playables Builder applies this logic to game development.
Looking back, YouTube began testing mini-game functionality on desktop and mobile devices as early as 2023, and added a multiplayer connection mechanism last year. Now, with the introduction of Gemini 3, the goal is clearly to move beyond simply "playing games" to "making games," allowing creators to generate personalized interactive content to engage their fans.
AI can create games, but it can't create a "soul."
While the technology sounds cool, many people have reservations. The report points out that while AI can help people without a technical background quickly produce content, "making a game" and "making a fun game" are two different things.
A truly great game often requires countless iterations, meticulous mechanic adjustments, and ingenuity from designers to become a genuinely enjoyable experience. While Playables Builder lowers the design threshold, it's more like a "trick" showcasing AI capabilities than a substitute for professional game development. Therefore, it's difficult to expect it to create a captivating AAA title.
