YahooAnnounceAcquired Instagram, co-founded by Kevin Systrom and Mike KriegerNew social service Artifact, and expects to integrate the artificial intelligence personalized recommendation technology behind this service and other features into products such as Yahoo News in the coming months.
The transaction value was not disclosed, and Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger will help provide technical integration advice during the transition period.
Artifact's service design primarily leverages artificial intelligence to make it easier for users to access news and information on social media platforms, while also tailoring content to their individual needs. The service, initially launched in January 2023, has already attracted significant user adoption through its highly personalized content recommendations.
However, the Artifact service did not become as popular as Instagram. Even though the development team continued to strengthen the online social interaction functions of this service, it still failed to successfully grow the number of users. As a result, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger finally announced the closure of the Artifact service and planned to sell it to the outside world.
In addition to the Artifact service, Yahoo also acquired Summly, a service that uses artificial intelligence technology to integrate news content, earlier. It subsequently integrated the technology behind it into Yahoo's products and shut down the Summly service.
