Unveiled at IFA 2019 this yearNew small-size flagship phone Xperia 5, today (9/19) officially announced the launch price in Taiwan, which is expected to be sold at NT$2. It is expected to be launched in early October this year. It will also cooperate with Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone Telecommunications on tariff plans.

The price is close to the current market price of Xperia 1
Although there is a difference of up to NT$1 compared to the flagship phone Xperia 3 launched in the first half of the year with a suggested retail price of NT$990, considering that the actual market price of Xperia 5000 has been lowered, the pricing of Xperia 1 may cause the new phone to lose value quickly, and may even make consumers prefer to buy Xperia 5 directly.
Sony Mobile is currently offering a pre-order offer where you can log in online and receive a pair of Xperia Ear Duo true wireless open-ear Bluetooth earphones and one year of compensation for accidental screen damage. Even after the phone goes on sale, the company will continue to offer the Xperia Ear Duo freebies.
It's just a question of whether consumers will be more inclined to buy the Xperia 1 after the price reduction, or the Xperia 5, which is of similar price and comes with the additional Xperia Ear Duo true wireless open-ear Bluetooth earphones. At present, it seems that more consumers will buy the former, but perhaps after the Xperia 5 is reduced as market demand decreases, there will be more willingness to buy it.
Named after the number "5", it targets the usage needs between the general public and users at the top of the pyramid.
according toSony Mobile's statementStarting this year, a new naming method was adopted for mobile phone products. The Xperia 1, which focuses on top users, uses the number "1", while the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus, which use the number "10", are in response to the usage needs of the general public. The Xperia 5, which is more suitable for holding in one hand, will be named with the number "5", targeting the usage needs between the general public and the top users.
Sony Mobile continues to position the Xperia 5 as a flagship phone to be released independently in the second half of the year. Consequently, features such as landscape mode support for the split-screen multitasking feature, new adjustment functions in the Cinema Pro app, and the new Game Enhancement mode and support for connecting a DUALSHOCK 4 controller for games like Fortnite will all be available first on the Xperia 5 before rolling out to the Xperia 1 via software update.
In terms of hardware specifications, the Xperia 5 also uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of memory and 128GB of storage capacity. It also supports an additional 512GB of storage capacity expansion via a micro SD memory card. It supports single or dual SIM cards depending on the launch region. The operating system is Android 9.0 and it is equipped with a 3140mAh battery.
The overall size is 1% smaller than the Xperia 11. The screen has been adjusted to 6.1 inches with a Full HD+ resolution (2520 x 1080). The dimensions have also been reduced to 158mm x 68mm x 8.2mm, and the overall weight is 164 grams, making the Xperia 5 more suitable for one-handed operation. It also supports IP65/68 water and dust resistance, and the body color options include black, gray, red, and blue.

This new feature includes support for 10 focus corrections per shot, with a 3-shot burst mode, for a total of 30 focus corrections per second, preventing focus failures during shooting. Furthermore, the Xperia 5 utilizes artificial intelligence to automatically display on-screen alerts when the user encounters issues such as blocking the lens with their finger, incorrect focus, closed eyes, blurring, insufficient light, or shaking during camera operation, alerting the user to potential shooting failures.
In addition, the photosensitive element used in the Xperia 5 does not adopt the embedded memory design, so the 960fps super slow motion shooting function will not be available in the camera options this time.

As for camera features, they're essentially the same as the Xperia 1, featuring the same Bionz X image processor, up to 10 frames per second continuous shooting, eye-detection autofocus, optical image stabilization, and numerous other technologies from the Alpha camera team. It also supports noise reduction in RAW files before converting them to JPEG.
Elsewhere, the Cinema Pro app's operational functions are further enhanced. For example, it can display frame lines for different video formats during shooting, allowing users to use them as a reference when framing. Automatic adjustment has also been added to the white balance option to increase convenience during shooting. Project settings will also be applied to subsequent video shoots, simplifying the inconvenience of having to readjust after each shot. Smooth switching has been added to the shooting zoom to enhance the settings for recording effects.
