At IFA 2023 this year, Sony announced the launch of a 6.1-inch mobile phone with the same hand-friendly design.Xperia 5VThe biggest difference compared to previous models is the lack of a telephoto lens. Instead, it uses an effective 4800-megapixel wide-angle lens, which achieves a 2x optical zoom effect through a central cropping method. This design happens to be in 48mm format, corresponding to the common 50mm portrait lens shooting focal length.
Remove the telephoto lens to make the body more "balanced"
Compared to the Xperia 1 V launched earlier this year, which focused on camera features and sensor upgrades, the Xperia 5 V follows suit, but without the telephoto lens. Instead, it utilizes a wide-angle lens with a native 5000MP resolution and an effective 4800MP resolution, cropping the center of the lens to achieve a 1200x telephoto effect captured with 2MP resolution.
Unlike other smartphones' digital zoom methods, the cropping process is performed entirely on the sensor itself, rather than after the image is captured and stored. Instead, the camera uses the same effective 1-megapixel Exmor T for Mobile sensor as the Xperia 4800 V, preserving detail in the cropped image. Combined with four pixel binning, the resulting 4-megapixel image maintains a certain brightness.
It is not clear at present why Sony adopted this design in the Xperia 5 V, but it is possible that it is to reduce the area of the main camera module in small-sized mobile phones, while also allowing extra space inside the phone to place more key components, such as the battery or the newly added wireless charging module.
As for the photography function, a new version of digital bokeh shooting effect has been added, and the video function has been added with an adjustable frame rate per second function, allowing users to create more flexibly with the Xperia 5 V.
Featured video quick editing and sharing experience
The main feature this time is the addition of a Video Creator app with automatic editing function, allowing users to import video content shot on their mobile phone and generate a fully edited video in as fast as 1 minute. It also provides 12 commercially available background music and 5 filter effects (actually, the filters added to the Xperia 1 V, but without the S filter option). In addition, you can also add word cards to the video content using fonts including 6 Chinese characters, and edit and output video ratio formats of 9:16, 16:9, 4:5, 21:9, and 1:1 respectively.
Compared to common video editing tools, the Xperia 5 V offers an automatic editing function that can import up to 99 videos (depending on the length of the content), and additional manual editing and adjustment functions. It can stack up to one video track, three audio tracks, and one text track. It mainly provides users with a simple and fast video editing experience. It claims that users can use the Xperia 3 V to shoot images and video content, and then quickly edit them into videos for sharing, which echoes the phone's own setting of locking in young user groups who like to share content and often interact in online social networks.
As for the updated features, including the Video Creator App, a new interface for the Game Enhancer, portrait depth of field effects, and Photo Pro's ability to automatically adjust the video frame rate, they will be available to existing models through subsequent firmware updates.
Hardware specifications upgraded, adding wireless charging
In terms of phone specifications, the Xperia 5 V also uses a 6.1-inch CinemaWide Full HD+ HDR OLED screen with a 21:9 display ratio, but the overall brightness is increased by 15%. It also supports IP65/68 water and dust resistance, and both the front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 tempered glass. It also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack and physical camera button.
The processor uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, paired with 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage capacity. It can also be expanded with a memory card with a maximum storage capacity of 1TB. The body is available in black, silver, and a new blue option. Sony emphasizes that this design adds more "integration" feeling, making the phone frame and screen have a more consistent design.
The built-in battery capacity is 5000mAh, which provides a 3-year health maintenance guarantee. It also supports wireless charging and boasts a 40% increase in heat dissipation area, which reduces the heat performance of the phone during actual operation.
Sony also emphasized that the Xperia 5 V's product box is also made of environmentally friendly materials, and the use of adhesives is reduced. The printed content is also presented through environmentally friendly printing materials. The protective back cover XQZ-CBDE launched this time is made of antibacterial coating and environmentally friendly materials.
The launch time is expected to be in September this year in the global market. The suggested retail price varies according to different markets. As for the Taiwanese market, the color schemes are Wow Cool Black, Wow Cool Silver and Wow Cool Blue. The suggested retail price of a single machine is NT$9, and pre-orders are now open.
