Regarding last year’s announcementWill invest in car manufacturing, with more than 500 days of development progress so far, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun gave further explanation at the new product launch conference, and emphasized that by fully focusing on the research and development of autonomous driving technology, Xiaomi will improve its competitiveness in the development of the electric vehicle industry.
Lei Jun said that RMB 33 billion has been invested in the first phase of the research and development of the autonomous driving project. The team dedicated to research and development has more than 500 people, including members of Xiaomi's artificial intelligence laboratory, Xiao Ai's research and development team, and Xiaomi's mobile phone camera department team. Therefore, the actual number of people involved in the research and development of autonomous driving technology is actually even greater.
In Xiaomi's demonstration project this time, it is shown that the vehicle can now perform complete autonomous driving operations, including automatic navigation, automatic U-turns in unprotected situations, automatic avoidance of parked vehicles, detours around broken-down vehicles, detours around circular routes, and courteous pedestrians.
In addition, in addition to being able to summon the vehicle directly through the mobile app, the vehicle can also automatically drive into the underground parking lot. At the same time, on the way to the parking location, it can still perform actions such as dodging cones, parking vehicles, or giving way to pedestrians on the road. After automatically parking in the designated parking spot, it can be charged through a robotic arm.
In the next step, Xiaomi plans to conduct tests in China using 140 test vehicles and plans to be among the top in the industry by 2024.
At the same time, Lei Jun also stated that he would no longer directly respond to industry speculation in the future and would focus on the development of technologies such as autonomous driving.
