After announcing its entry into the bionic robot market in 2021 and launching its first bionic quadruped robot CyberDog "Iron Egg", Xiaomi announced the launch of the second-generation CyberDog 2 at Lei Jun's annual speech and new product launch event. It looks more like a dog and uses a newly designed CyberGear micromotor to make the bionic quadruped robot's movements more delicate.
In terms of specifications, the CyberGear micromotor used in CyberDog 2 weighs only 317 grams, has a maximum output torque of 12Nm, and a control accuracy of up to 0.2Nm. It is claimed to be able to control the force enough to tap tofu without breaking it, and the action response delay is only 20 milliseconds.
CyberDog 2 itself adopts a design with 12 degrees of freedom of movement in its limbs, and can stably stand on the skateboard in a dynamic balance manner. It can even automatically regain its standing position after falling or being kicked, and can avoid falling, or perform front and back flips, and its running speed can reach 1.6 meters per second.
Equipped with an artificial intelligence controller capable of 21TOPS, a motion control processor and a voice interaction processor, plus multiple cameras, microphones, TOF lenses, lidar, ultrasound, and touch sensors, and through deep learning training using over 3 virtual CyberDog 2s, CyberDog 2 can interact with people through facial recognition, gestures, and voice, and even achieve obstacle avoidance and following, as well as linkage with IoT devices.
Like the first generation CyberDog, the CyberDog 2 launched this time also chooses to be provided in an open source form, and claims to avoid competitors purchasing it just for internal motors. Xiaomi has also chosen to open source the motor design of CyberDog 2 and sell it independently. The price of CyberDog 2 is higher than the previous generation, and will be sold at RMB 12999, while the suggested retail price of CyberGear micromotor is RMB 499.
In addition, Xiaomi announced the launch of a special electrochromic version of CyberDog 2, emphasizing that developers can customize the appearance of CyberDog 2 according to design requirements, and hopes to attract more developers to join in promoting the development of the bionic robot market.
