After much recent hype, Xiaomi has finally officially unveiled the Xiaomi 12S series, the first smartphone built in partnership with Leica. The entire series is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 12+ Gen 8 processor. The newly released Xiaomi 1 Pro also features a MediaTek Dimensity 12+ processor.
The Xiaomi 12S series launched this time all use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, and only the Xiaomi 12 Pro has an additional version equipped with the Dimensity 9000+ processor.
In terms of screen, the Xiaomi 12S uses a 6.28-inch 3D micro-curved flexible screen that supports P10 wide color gamut, primary color display, Dolby Vision, HDR120+, and a 3Hz frame refresh rate. The Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra use a 6.73-inch, 2K E5-level AMOLED primary color screen that supports 1Hz-120Hz AdaptiveSync Pro adaptive refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 1500nits.
In addition, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra uses a triple cooling pump system in its heat dissipation design, which improves cooling efficiency by simulating the biological characteristics of plant veins absorbing water, and the thermal conductivity efficiency is increased by 100%.
As for the Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity version, it uses the same cooling system as the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, and the screen and camera system use the same specifications as the Xiaomi 12S Pro, but the battery capacity is 5160mAh. It is also equipped with Xiaomi's self-developed Surge P1 charging chip, corresponding to 67W wired fast charging.
Ensure battery efficiency through self-developed charging system
In terms of power control, Xiaomi uses its self-developed Surge P12 charging chip and Surge G1 battery management chip in the Xiaomi 1S Ultra. It supports 67W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging and 10W reverse charging. It uses a 4860mAh single-cell silicon oxide negative electrode battery, which can achieve a maximum stable output charging current of 16A and a conversion rate of up to 96.8%.
Working in conjunction with the Surge P1 and Surge G1, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra's battery management system ensures safe charging and discharging, extending battery life and performance. This includes detailed detection of battery temperature rise, dynamically adjusting the charging mode, and optimizing for long-term overnight charging to prevent prolonged high temperatures and overcharging, increasing the battery's charge cycle by 25%.
The first Xiaomi phone full of Leica style
Regarding the cooperation with Leica, Xiaomi boasts that the Xiaomi 12S series jointly developed optical lenses with Leica and obtained Leica Summicron certification. By leveraging Leica's optical lens design technology and Xiaomi's R&D capabilities in mobile phones, the mobile phone lens can ensure higher resolution performance while also having high light transmittance, low dispersion, and low glare.
Among them, the wide-angle lens of Xiaomi 12S Ultra is composed of 8 aspherical high-lens lenses, through anti-glare coating, edge anti-reflective ink coating, spin-coated infrared filter and cycloolefin polymer material, it can reduce the effects of glare, ghosting, purple fringing (chromatic aberration), and thus restore pure shooting quality.
In terms of shooting functions, two shooting styles, "Leica Classic" and "Leica Vivid", have been added. Through artificial intelligence deep learning algorithms and Leica image adjustment technology, the shooting style of Leica cameras can be reproduced.
The "Leica Classic" style pursues authenticity and naturalness, preserving the authentic contrast of light and shadow within the frame, imbuing flat photos with a sense of real-world space. The "Leica Vivid" style, a collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica, blends Xiaomi's extensive experience in mobile photography with Leica's professional aesthetic judgment. It achieves a vibrant and atmospheric feel while maintaining accurate color, recreating the emotion of the moment captured.
In addition, Xiaomi has also added the same filters, classic shutter sounds, and Leica watermarks as Leica cameras to the Xiaomi 12S series. It has even added a master-level lens group to the Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Based on the classic legendary lenses launched by Leica in the past 3 years, the three most classic legendary lenses were selected for digital modeling, and their special texture and typical imaging effects were simulated through software, making the mobile phone shooting effect more Leica-flavored.
Cooperate with Sony to develop a true 1-inch image sensor
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra also uses Sony's 1-inch photosensitive element IMX989 for the first time. With a Quad-Bayer pixel matrix design, while the single pixel photosensitive area can reach 1.6μm, four groups of pixels are combined to form a single pixel photosensitive area of 4μm, thereby reducing image shooting noise, while also being able to cope with a higher dynamic range and light input. Even at night, it can achieve higher image quality performance and is close to the image quality of real camera shooting.
At the same time, Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the world's first Android phone to support Dolby Vision HDR recording, and also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos effects.
As for the wide-angle lenses of Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro, both use Sony IMX707 photosensitive elements. The 1/1.28-inch photosensitive element design, combined with 4 groups of pixels, can achieve a single pixel photosensitive area of 2.44μm, improving overall photosensitivity. In addition, through artificial intelligence algorithms and ProFocus tracking technology, it can easily achieve a fast startup, snapshot, and continuous shooting experience. It can even correspond to a maximum continuous shooting of 30 frames per second, and can even achieve snapshot effects in night scene shooting scenes.
In addition, the Xiaomi 12S series supports shooting 10-bit RAW format photos, and the environment is calibrated by Adobe laboratories, with color correction annotation data embedded in the file. When editing photos taken by the Xiaomi 12S series through Adobe Lightroom, you can use Adobe Camera RAW software to automatically optimize the photos based on the annotation data.
