In the past, Microsoft has revealed that it will enable Xbox One to be compatible with virtual reality devices such as Oculus Rift in the future, but it now seems that this statement will ultimately not be realized.
According toGamesIndustry.biz websiteAccording to reports, Mike Nichols, global marketing director of Microsoft's Xbox division, said in an interview recently that the PC platform still seems to be the best application platform for virtual reality or augmented reality, so this type of user experience will not be applied to the Xbox One platform at present.
However, this statement seems to contradict Xbox head Phil Spencer's statement when he announced the Xbox One X in 2016, which stated that the Xbox One would be able to further support smooth 4K gaming and clear virtual reality content experiences in the future. In subsequent interviews, Phil Spencer repeatedly emphasized the need to further develop Xbox One support for virtual reality content applications, and even the mixed reality application experiences currently promoted by Microsoft.
While its competitor Sony has seen some success in expanding its PlayStation VR offerings, Microsoft appears to be still focusing its virtual reality experience on the PC platform. Even though the Xbox One platform utilizes the same Windows operating system architecture as the PC, Microsoft clearly believes the Xbox One's current computing performance is insufficient in order to achieve the same virtual reality presentation effects.
