WPC, which developed the currently widely used wireless charger Qi specification, announced at CES 2023The new generation of Qi2 wireless charging standard, mainly listing Apple’s MagSafe magnetic fixation design as one of the standard items to ensure the correct sensing position during wireless charging.
In the past, when using wireless charging, it was often impossible to detect whether the placement position was correctly sensed, resulting in a long time before discovering that the battery was not charged at all, and it might even cause damage to the battery.
Therefore, in the view of the WPC, if Apple's MagSafe magnetic fixing design is used, wireless charging will function more correctly and avoid situations where wireless charging is harmful to the device.
In addition to incorporating MagSafe into the Qi2 wireless charging standard, this update also allows users to charge wirelessly at higher power while ensuring compatibility between wireless charging devices across brands, preventing minor specification differences from causing improper charging.
