Alphabet's drone delivery serviceWing, earlierConfirmIt will begin providing delivery services in the metropolitan area between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, starting on April 4th, US time, becoming the first drone service provider to provide delivery in a large metropolitan area in the United States.
Initially, the service will be provided in Frisco and Little Elm, north of Dallas-Fort Worth, allowing tens of thousands of households to obtain products sold by drugstore chains such as Walgreens via drones. Other businesses joining the cooperation include Blue Bell Creameries, which provides products such as ice cream, Easyvet, which provides pet medicines, and Texas Health, which provides first aid kits.
The drones provided in this service are still designed by Wing itself. They adopt a multi-axis, fixed-wing structure and can handle cargo weighing up to 1.5 kilograms. The maximum flight distance is 10 kilometers. They operate through fully automatic navigation, but can also be remotely controlled when necessary.
Wing currently plans to expand the range of drone delivery in stages, and is expected to be able to meet the delivery needs of the large metropolitan area between Dallas and Fort Worth in the future.
