微軟在1995年8月24日正式推出Windows 95作業系統,至今已經正式邁入25週年。
Compared to the previous PC operating system usage mode which was still mainly based on DOS, Windows at that time still had to be started separately. It was not until Windows 95 that it officially became an operating system that could be used directly, but it still retained DOS operating functions.
In addition to being the first Windows operating system that can be booted and used, Windows 95 also adopted the "Start" menu interface design for the first time. It was also Microsoft's first 32-bit architecture operating system. It also natively integrated the Internet Explorer browser and added designs such as the file manager and taskbar.
However, because the Internet Explorer browser was provided by default in Windows 95, Microsoft was subsequently accused of violating market monopoly.
To promote Windows 95, Microsoft invested a staggering $3 million in marketing, a staggering sum at the time. Microsoft even paid the Rolling Stones $300 million to write the Windows 95 theme song, "Start Me Up." This publicity spurred many consumers who didn't own computers to line up to buy Windows 95, despite having no idea what Windows 95 was.
Windows 95 sold 100 million copies in the first week after its launch, and cumulative sales of 4000 million copies within the first year. Considering that Windows 95 was priced at US$210 at the time, it obviously increased Microsoft's revenue significantly and also laid a solid foundation for the subsequent launch of Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows XP.
The last update for Windows 95 was 4.00 OEM Service Release 2.5, which was released on November 1997, 11. The operating system ended technical support on December 26, 2001.
