Windows 10 X, unveiled alongside the Surface Neo, is Microsoft's new Windows operating system specifically designed for dual-screen devices. Its user interface is clearly tailored to the demands of dual-screen use. Following the official unveiling of the Surface Neo, Windows 10 X is expected to become available to partners. Therefore, we should see an increasing number of dual-screen devices powered by Windows 10 X.
In fact, dual-screen devices have been launched for a long time, but due to the relatively limited user experience and application services, as well as the relatively heavy and bulky products and power consumption, these products have become a hot topic and have never been able to become mainstream application products in the market.
Coinciding with the official unveiling of Surface Neo, Microsoft also announced that its Windows 10 X operating system is designed specifically for dual-screen devices, minimizing the interaction barrier between them and even allowing users to experience a more intuitive experience.
According to Microsoft's Chief Product Officer Panos Panay, adding a screen to a device will definitely improve productivity, and Microsoft continues to work hard to create better application products that users can use intuitively in their daily lives.
Windows 10 X adds many cross-screen intuitive operations
Starting with Windows 8, Microsoft has focused on creating interactive modes such as stylus and touch, and later added voice control (digital assistant services) and biometrics (fingerprint and facial recognition). Microsoft's newly introduced Windows 10X even introduces a dual-screen mode, hoping to make it easier for users to utilize the convenience of dual monitors while also meeting more content needs.
At the same time, by changing the keyboard adsorption position, the operation interface is adjusted, rather than just using the touch screen as a keyboard. In fact, some real operation touch is retained, and the operation experience can have more diverse application modes. The dynamically adjusted operation interface can also make it more flexible and efficient.
In addition, the use of dual monitors in the Windows 10 X operating interface may also allow Microsoft to resolve the difficult-to-reduce operating mode gap between tablets and laptops. For example, maintaining the traditional Windows usage mode through a regular screen while displaying the tablet operating interface on another screen may become the future development direction of the Windows operating system.
Expected to drive more dual-screen devices into the market
While Microsoft's partnerships suggest that the Windows 10 X operating system will be available to partners, allowing manufacturers like ASUS, Lenovo, Dell, and HP to build new Windows PCs based on it, the Surface Neo's size makes it quite suitable for portable use. However, if it were to be the size of a regular laptop, actual usage would likely require some adjustments, and power consumption would also need to be improved.
Therefore, at this stage, as far as Windows 10 X applications are concerned, it may still have to wait for the hardware design to be further coordinated before it can be widely used in the market. Perhaps it is for this reason that Microsoft plans to launch the Surface Neo at the end of next year.
However, the launch of Surface Neo and Windows 10 X means that multi-screen laptop designs will become mainstream in the future. It is also expected that more applications and services that can be used across multiple screens, devices, and even on multiple screens simultaneously will become increasingly common.
