WhatsApp, which was acquired by Meta for $2014 billion in cash on February 2, 19, has finally started to integrate its messaging system into the app.Display advertising content.
However, the advertising content will only be displayed on the update page, so Meta said that the advertising content will not affect the user's actual usage experience.
In this update, WhatsApp also added channel subscription and channel promotion functions, which are somewhat similar to LINE's official account application function, and allow stores and businesses to interact with consumers and even place appropriate advertisements for target consumer groups.
Like many previous privacy-related services, Meta stated that it will not sell or share consumers' private information with stores, businesses, etc., nor will it use consumers' chat and call content to place advertisements. It also emphasized that this information will be protected by end-to-end encryption.
Compared to Meta's other products that have already added various types of advertising content, it is not surprising that WhatsApp followed suit and added advertising, but under the current relatively limited advertising exposure, it may take longer to make a profit.
