WhatsApp may add a feature similar to Apple's AirDrop in the future, allowing users to share files with nearby devices.
Released through the Google Play Beta testing programVersion number 2.24.2.20In the test, WhatsApp is expected to add the function of sharing files with nearby devices, but the estimated time for testing and the specific name of the function are still unknown.
During the operation, the user sharing the file must be close to the other party, and the other party must open WhatsApp on their phone and shake their phone to receive the shared file. In order to protect data confidentiality, users will be able to set their personal visibility status and hide their personal mobile phone number from non-contact objects.
It is not yet possible to confirm whether this feature that WhatsApp is about to add will share files via Wi-Fi Direct or Bluetooth, and whether the shared content will be stored directly on the mobile phone or within the WhatsApp service.
On the other hand, Apple already provides AirDrop file sharing function on devices such as iPhone. Google also proposed its own file sharing function Nearby Sharing, which was later merged with Samsung's Quick Share function. The purpose of WhatsApp providing an additional file sharing function within the app is currently unknown.
WhatsApp currently allows users to share files within 2GB through its service platform, and can transmit up to 100 photos at a time. Perhaps the nearby sharing function that will be launched next will also provide users with a more convenient experience.
