Alphabet's self-driving car technology company, Waymo, announced a major breakthrough, confirming that it has obtained approval from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).ApproveThis will significantly expand its driverless testing and Robotaxi (autonomous taxi) deployment.

In an official statement, Waymo said, "We have been officially authorized to conduct fully autonomous driving in more areas of the Golden State (California)."
Maps provided by the California Department of Motor Vehicles show that the dark areas represent Waymo's original operating areas, while the light areas represent the newly added expansion areas. This means that Waymo's driverless cars will be able to connect a wider range of cities and suburbs, enabling not only short-distance connections in city centers but also long-distance travel across counties in the future.
