Waves, a provider of audio technology and testing resources for professional and consumer electronics, announced today (October 10) the establishment of a new testing laboratory in Taiwan, its first in Taiwan, following locations in California, USA, and Israel. The new laboratory will include four ETSI test labs and a specially designed anechoic chamber for more precise acoustic measurements.
The purpose of establishing these laboratories is to test voice communication and automatic speech recognition technologies on smart speakers and other mobile devices, and to collaborate with industry players such as Dell, Acer and Qualcomm. In addition, it will be able to cooperate with more OEMs to expand the application and development of voice technology in IoT devices.
Of the five laboratories established in Taiwan, four are named after Taiwan's high mountains: Alishan (ALI), Central Mountain Range (CENTRAL), Jade Mountain (JADE), and Sylvia Mountain (SYLVIA). They are built according to PAL Acoustics Technology specifications, and the anechoic chamber is designed with the highest noise isolation level (NIC) of 5.
According to Waves, the Central Mountain Range, Jade Mountain, and Snow Mountain laboratories are all designed for testing Waves Maxx and Waves Nx sound technologies. They can also further certify and verify voice application software devices such as Microsoft Teams, Skype, Cotana, or Amazon's Alexa.
By equipping the Taipei laboratory with the same level of testing equipment as certification laboratories and providing audio technology calibration assistance services, it not only reduces the process and time required for manufacturers to submit their products for certification, but also helps manufacturers develop new audio application products more quickly by providing nearby technical resources.
“On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Waves Consumer Business Unit, our new lab marks a significant milestone in the vertical integration of the company and key services,” said Tomer Elbaz, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Waves Consumer Business Unit. “Our new facility in Taipei will ensure Waves delivers the most reliable technology to deliver the best sound, voice, and audio experiences on consumer devices.”
