February this yearAnnounceWarner Bros. Discovery (WBD) will be split into two independent media companies in mid-2026, and each will become a listed company.ConfirmThe name of the company that covers film, television and game content was adjusted to "Warner Bros.", while the company that controls cable channels and real-world entertainment content was officially called "Discovery Global".
Prior to this, Warner Bros. Discovery originally planned to split the two independent companies into Warner Bros. Discovery Streaming & Studios (WBD Streaming & Studios) and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Networks (WBD Global Networks). Perhaps in order to make the split and independent companies more recognizable, the news was announced this time to confirm that the two independent companies will be adjusted to Warner Bros. and Discovery Global respectively.
Warner Bros. will include Warner Bros. film, television and game studios, as well as New Line Cinema, DC Films, HBO and HBO Max services. Discovery Global will cover entertainment, sports and news channel brands, including cable TV channel content such as CNN, TNT Sports, HGTV, Cartoon Network, TCL and Discovery Channel in the United States, as well as streaming video services such as Discovery+ and Bleacher Report content in Europe.
As for personnel arrangements, David Zaslav, currently CEO and President of Warner Bros. Discovery, will become CEO and President of Warner Bros., and Gunnar Wiedenfels, currently CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, will become CEO and President of Discovery Worldwide.
However, whether the brand name change can truly resolve the market perception of Warner Bros. Discovery's chaotic management and inconsistent decision-making over the past few years remains to be seen. Especially given the fierce competition in the streaming market, volatile advertising revenues, and rapidly evolving consumer viewing habits, whether the two companies can each forge a steady and clear growth trajectory will be crucial to the success of this split.
