For many website beginners or operators, the biggest headache is often not the content, but adjusting the layout design. Which font should be used to look professional? How to match colors so they don't look like they've been poisoned? Now, Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com, has heard everyone's cries and decided to further expand the application of AI on the platform.
WordPress.comAnnounceThe AI tool, originally used only for "initial website building," has been upgraded to a permanent AI assistant. This means that AI will no longer just build your website and leave, but will be on standby at all times to assist you with subsequent design fine-tuning, media generation, and even copywriting polishing.
Are designers going to lose their jobs? They can even understand "make the website look brighter".
This new AI assistant is directly integrated into the Site Editor. Its core capability lies in understanding natural language commands and translating them into actual CSS or layout settings.
For example, users can directly instruct the chatbot: "Give me some font options that look cleaner and more professional," or "Make the website color scheme brighter and bolder." The system will then automatically adjust the global styles based on the description.
In addition, it also has basic copywriting polishing functions, such as "rewrite this paragraph to make it sound more confident".
Media library undergoes major upgrade: Pancakes instantly transformed into waffles
Beyond redesigning, this AI assistant also delves into the media library. Users can directly use AI to generate entirely new images in the background, or perform "prompted edits" on existing images.
For example, you can select a photo of breakfast and then ask the AI to "replace this stack of muffins with waffles" or "turn this photo into black and white." WordPress emphasizes that this assistant can understand your website's overall visual style and brand tone, so the generated images will theoretically be more consistent with the website.
Integrating team collaboration, but with barriers to entry.
This feature is also integrated into Block Notes, the team communication tool for WordPress.com, allowing team members to directly call on AI bots in chat threads to assist with brainstorming or task execution.
However, there is a price to pay for enjoying this "all-around assistant".
Currently, this tool is only available to users of the WordPress.com Business and Commerce plans. The only exception is if you initially used the "AI Website Builder" to generate your website; in that case, this feature will be enabled by default, regardless of your plan.
In addition, the official documentation also notes that this AI assistant works best when paired with Block Themes; if you are still using the older Classic Themes, its functionality will be greatly limited.
