Walmart recently partnered with community solar developer NexampCollaboration, will build 31 community solar power plants in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Illinois and Minnesota in the United States to promote the development of green energy applications.
These solar power plants are expected to generate 120 megawatts of direct current green electricity, which is expected to save local businesses and approximately 8000 homes up to millions of dollars in electricity bills and create 1500 new jobs.
Prior to this, Walmart partnered with Nexamp in 2021 to launch a series of community solar projects in New York City, hoping to drive greater development opportunities through renewable energy. Nexamp's community solar business model allows users to generate green electricity through solar power through a subscription model, maintaining their existing electricity consumption while further reducing their electricity bills. The company claims to be able to save over $200 million annually.
Nexamp CEO Zaid Ashai expects that the partnership with Walmart will enable more users to use green electricity at more affordable prices, help promote the adoption of green electricity, and drive local economic growth.
