Confirmed in late February this year$23 billionFollowing the news of its acquisition of TV brand Vizio, Walmart announced earlier that it has officially completed the acquisition process and incorporated the Vizio brand into its operating system.
In this transaction, the Vizio brand will continue to operate independently and will continue to be led by current CEO William Wang.
After acquiring Vizio, Walmart will expand its advertising business through Vizio's SmartCast operating system, which uses free advertising to support content playback costs. At the same time, its own advertising business, with a market value of approximately US$27 billion, will be merged with Vizio's existing advertising business, allowing Walmart's existing advertising content to be distributed through Vizio's advertising channels.
In addition, acquiring Vizio-related assets will also help Walmart obtain more consumer usage data, which will enable more targeted advertising content and drive more advertising revenue and subsequent product sales momentum.
Since Walmart already has its own brand, onn., TV box products, the acquisition of Vizio will further strengthen its presence in the TV market and allow it to compete with Amazon, Roku, and other players in the TV advertising market.
