After Volvo recently launched the small-sized pure electric SUV model EX30 in the Taiwan market, it also announced the launch of the pure electric model ES60 in Sweden based on the original S90 model. It is claimed to provide the spaciousness of an SUV model in the appearance of a regular sedan. It is also Volvo's first pure electric model equipped with an 800-volt voltage system, which is claimed to be able to complete charging needs in a shorter time.
Because it is designed with higher voltage specifications, it can operate with a smaller current when converted using the power formula "P=IV" (electrical power equals current multiplied by voltage). This means that the diameter of the wires used can be relatively smaller, thereby reducing the weight of the vehicle and freeing up more internal usable space.
On the other hand, by increasing the voltage design, not only can the vehicle be charged at a faster rate, but it can also correspond to higher power output, thereby improving vehicle acceleration performance. Increasing the battery capacity can also increase the vehicle's range.
At the same time, the ES90 is Volvo's first model equipped with dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin in-vehicle computer systems, making it the model with the highest core computing power in Volvo's history.
In terms of safety design, Volvo also emphasized that the ES90 adopts a fully enclosed safety design in the battery system, and is equipped with C-shaped LED taillights. The active safety system is equipped with a single front lidar, 5 radars, 7 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensor elements.
Inside, the rear seats can be folded down for more usable space. The panoramic sunroof not only blocks 99.9% of UV rays, but also offers an optional electrochromic glass option that darkens at the touch of a button to reduce glare. A 14.5-inch central display features Google's Android Auto operating system and access to numerous Google and third-party services.
The ES90 is expected to be available for order in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, with further markets to follow before the end of this year and in 2026.
