Following previous promotional announcements, Volkswagen Taiwan today (July 7th) announced the opening of its flagship showroom in Zhonghe in partnership with Yuansan Motors. The company also announced the official launch of the Grand California, a fully functional large campervan imported from Europe.
The Grand California has been previously sold in European markets such as Germany. It is based on Volkswagen's large van model Crafter. Compared with the current California series with a pop-up roof, dual gas stoves, water tanks and refrigerators, the Grand California can be used directly in a natural standing position in the car, and has a separate compartment bathroom and a larger interior space, allowing users to more easily enjoy outdoor camping life in the car.
The vehicle itself measures 6836 x 2040 x 2839mm, and includes electric retractable auxiliary steps for the sliding doors, a central multi-function touch panel, and ambient cabin interior lighting. Items can also be placed through the interior front and side wall cabinets, as well as the storage cabinets in the side kitchen.
The front cab seat can be rotated to form a "living room" space with the middle seating area and hanging table. In addition, a "kitchen" area and "bathroom" area are also configured in the middle, and a "bedroom" area is set up in the rear. The internal space height reaches 1970mm, which is convenient for standing and moving in the car in a natural posture.
When the "bedroom" area is not in use, the spring bed can be lifted up to free up space in the central aisle below, which can be used to place large objects, bicycles, and motorcycles. The bottom space can also be used to store more luggage and gas tanks for the kitchen stove.
As for the vehicle itself, it is powered by a four-cylinder TDI turbocharged diesel engine with a displacement of 1968cc, a maximum output of 177 horsepower (130kW) and 41.8 kg-m of torque. It is operated by an eight-speed Tiptronic manual transmission. The driving assistance system includes Front Assist forward collision warning system (AEB), Crosswind Assist side wind stability assistance system, MCB secondary collision pre-braking system, ESC electronic driving stability system, and ABS anti-lock braking system to ensure driving safety.
In addition, it is equipped with PDC front and rear parking guidance system (sound warning), dual front seat belt unfastened warning and dual front seat SRS front airbags/side airbags/side air curtain protection measures, making vehicle driving safer.
Currently, Grand California will be available for limited pre-sale orders starting from now on at 8 exclusive showrooms across Taiwan, with a pre-sale price of NT$408 million. It will be available in two metallic paint colors: Brilliant Silver and Mirror Gray, as well as a Vanilla White solid paint color. In addition, you can also choose a two-tone paint color including Vanilla White Cherry Red, Vanilla White Desert Brown, Vanilla White Sea Blue and Brilliant Silver Mirror Gray.
