Microsoft's decision to acquire Activision Blizzard for $687 billion, which indeed attracted the attention of the U.S. federal government. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission will investigate, confirm whether this transaction constitutes a market monopoly.
Prior to this, there were actually market speculations that Microsoft's huge investment in Activision Blizzard might lead to regulatory investigations due to its impact on market competition. This was especially true after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard's assets, making it the world's third-largest gaming company, second only to China's Tencent Games and Sony's PlayStation.
However, Microsoft apparently had already anticipated that the transaction would face regulatory investigation, so when it previously explained it to the public, it actually mentioned that it estimated the transaction would be completed within fiscal 2023, which means it would take at least a year to complete the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Prior to this, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard would continue to operate independently, but perhaps in order to convince regulators, Microsoft emphasized that after Activision Blizzard was incorporated into its system, it would continue to operate independently and retain its own game publishing capabilities, which means that all developments of Activision Blizzard would not be affected, in addition to its game content being available on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service for more players to play and use.
