A preview version has been previously provided to developersUnreal Engine 5, now announced to all developersOfficial version, and claims to make it easier to build photo-realistic 3D scenes, while also helping developers easily create open world-structured games.
As previously demonstrated with The Matrix Awakens, EPIC Games emphasizes that Unreal Engine 5 will be able to render more realistic 3D images and more realistic light and shadow refraction. It will also use artificial intelligence to automatically assist in the creation of 3D scenes, allowing more developers to use it to create open-world games.
Furthermore, the built-in character and animation toolset allows developers to quickly create 3D character content and directly apply it to game scenes. This also optimizes the user interface and workflow, reducing overall production time. The audio system, called MetaSounds, is also integrated, allowing audio content to be combined with rendered images for a more realistic soundstage.
As for 3D portrait effects, Unreal Engine 5 boasts of being able to produce more realistic facial expressions and interpret more realistic hair movements or facial fine lines.
However, it will still take some time for the games announced to be built with Unreal Engine 5 to enter the market. For example, Black Myth: Wukong, which was previously advertised to be built with Unreal Engine 5, will not be officially launched until at least 2023. Recently, CD Projekt Red confirmed that it will build Unreal Engine 5.A new game in the Witcher series, the launch time has not yet been determined.
