3DMark, the performance testing software previously available for iOS platform devices, was earlier announced by UL Solutions to launch a version that can be used in the macOS platform environment, thereby natively meeting the performance testing needs of Mac devices.
UL Solutions stated that since the launch of the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test, approximately one-sixth of all data submitted via the 3DMark iOS benchmark software actually originated from Mac devices using Apple silicon processors. However, due to differences in hardware design between Mac models and iOS devices, the actual performance test results may vary. For example, differences in display refresh rates can affect test results on Mac devices, potentially causing adverse effects.
Therefore, the 3DMark for macOS launched by UL Solutions this time will be able to be used in a natively compatible form on Mac devices equipped with Apple Silicon processors, and can test more accurate performance data, including Wild Life Extreme, Solar Bay and Steel Nomad Light test items, and also provides the Steel Nomad benchmark test that was previously only available in the Windows version.
These benchmarks can be run directly using the Metal API of the macOS operating system, and emphasize that the calculation results will be reasonably comparable with Windows, iOS and Android devices.
In addition, like the Windows version, 3DMark for macOS can also use the exploration mode of Steel Nomad and Steel Nomad Light, and can store test results in a personal account. It can also customize the benchmark under different resolutions, or use looping benchmarks to confirm the performance curve changes when the device is used for a long time. In addition, the HDR function can be enabled to make the scene more eye-catching.
