Ubisoft announced that it willAssassin's Creed: PhantasmsBased on the game, "The Discovery App: Medieval Baghdad," a new free mobile app has been released. Available today on the App Store and Google Play Store, the app can also be accessed directly through a web browser, allowing more players and history enthusiasts to delve deeper into Baghdad during the Abbasid era beyond the game itself.
Players familiar with the Assassin's Creed series should be familiar with the fact that Ubisoft has been expanding its "Discovery Tour" mode beyond the mainline games in recent years, transforming the vast and detailed game world into an interactive and entertaining educational resource. The Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad is based on the highly realistic ninth-century Baghdad from Assassin's Creed: Phantasms, offering two main exploration methods:
The first is "Access Codex." This mode includes encyclopedic content based on the in-game "History of Baghdad," covering political, cultural, artistic, and scientific developments. Through the app's interactive AR (augmented reality) feature, users can gain a more intuitive understanding of the historical context of medieval Baghdad.
The second is "Explore Baghdad," designed as a two-hour gamified journey. It allows users to immerse themselves in a 360-degree exploration and, through a series of mini-games, gradually collect ancient texts, thereby gaining a more vivid understanding of the society and culture of the time.
This app was developed in collaboration between Ubisoft and UK immersive technology company Sugar Creative, with support from the Welsh government, Creative Wales. Through interactive storytelling and rigorous historical research, the development team extended the Assassin's Creed series' consistent attention to detail to an educational level, creating a digital product that combines cultural depth with widespread accessibility.
Notably, the "Discovery App: Medieval Baghdad" also incorporates authentic artifacts from the collection of the Arab World Institute Museum in Paris. Through high-quality 3D scanning, users can experience medieval artifacts like the Ruby Luster Bowl up close and personal through augmented reality, creating a truly museum-like experience.
Through this app, Ubisoft once again demonstrates that "games are more than just entertainment." The Discovery Tour series not only allows players to freely explore virtual worlds, but also provides a digital window into history, bringing ninth-century Baghdad to life for modern audiences.
From gamified interactions and educational content to the digitization of cultural assets, "Discovery App: Medieval Baghdad" embodies the potential for cross-sector collaboration between the gaming industry, education, and cultural institutions. For history enthusiasts and teachers, this app is not only an easy way to learn, but also a prime example of bringing ancient civilizations into everyday life.
