Uber announced earlier that it would officially launch aUber WorksTemporary employee matching services.
As early as last year, Uber had conducted early tests in Los Angeles and also launched a service operation experience in the Chicago area for several months. It is now officially launched and has become one of Uber's new business projects.
Uber Works' service is somewhat similar to the current Uber EATS food delivery matching service, except that it replaces food delivery with temporary employees, allowing people with temporary work needs to find suitable personnel through this service, and also allowing people who can provide work services to quickly find job opportunities through this service.
This service is expected to be launched in the Chicago area of the United States first, allowing employers with temporary employee resource needs to send job details including salary, work location, and required skills through this service. Uber will also conduct background checks and relevant skills assessments on temporary workers participating in this service, allowing employers to feel at ease seeking temporary workers through the Uber Works service.
Compared to the traditional method of seeking temporary employees through advertising, Uber believes that matching through its own platform will enable employers to hire temporary workers more efficiently and safely. It will also allow people who earn a living through temporary work to find suitable jobs more quickly, thereby reducing the time and cost required to find suitable jobs.
However, this service may also face some legal issues. For example, the temporary employees mentioned in this service are not formal employees. This part will obviously conflict with the recent bill passed in California requiring independent contractors to treat cooperative workers as formal employees. For example, Uber or Lyft's cooperative service drivers must be able to receive the same treatment as formal employees. Therefore, the Uber Works service may be adjusted in the future in response to current laws.
As for similar application services, Google actually took over the Homejoy home service search and matching platform a long time ago, allowing users to more quickly find temporary workers who can provide home cleaning, repairs, or care through online matching.
The Uber Works service also offers the option to choose the actual size of staff and type of service required. The service will also cooperate with temporary human resources contractors, allowing the Uber service platform to become a temporary employee or professional human resources matching platform.
