Uber recently announced its 10th anniversary of operations in Taiwan. It has currently accumulated nearly 6 partner drivers who have accepted orders through the Uber service platform. Uber also became a domestic company in Taiwan in 2020 and assisted more taxi operators in digital transformation.
Since entering the Taiwanese market in 2013 and operating as a domestic company, Uber has currently cooperated with 24 taxi operators and generated a total revenue of NT$200 billion for its cooperating professional drivers.
Margarita Peker, General Manager of Uber Taiwan, said: "Since the launch of the Uber app in 2013, Uber has consistently leveraged technology to create digital transformation opportunities for consumers, the transportation industry, and Taiwanese society. We have made it possible to hail a ride with one click and travel at will, while also using technology to help local transportation service providers gain more economic opportunities. Uber has also introduced many industry-first technologies and initiatives. For example, when consumers use the Uber app to hail a ride, they can share their trip with friends and family to report safety, and provide two-way ratings between passengers and drivers, creating a better commuting experience. We thank the community for their trust and support, and look forward to working with more partners to create the next decade of technological and sustainable progress!"
Uber has expanded its service coverage in nine major cities, including Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. Uber Elite also expanded to Nantou in August, with plans to expand to Yilan and Pingtung by the end of the year. The "Book a Ride" feature has rapidly expanded to Taipei, New Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. Uber's "Yellow" service, in addition to its existing service areas in Taipei, New Taipei City, Keelung, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, expanded to Tainan in mid-August and is expected to expand to Hsinchu in September.
After 10 years of operation in Taiwan, Uber claims that 480 million users have completed 1.79 million rides through the Uber app, covering a total distance of over 12 billion kilometers. Currently, Uber offers a range of ride options in Taiwan, including "Carbon-Reducing Uber," "Elite Uber," "Uber for Pets," "Elite Plus," "Prestige Uber," "Caring Uber," "Baby Uber," "Happy Uber (6-seater)," and the airport-exclusive "UberMax (10-seater)" (airport pickup). One in every XNUMX rides booked through the Uber app is a "Carbon-Reducing Uber."
In addition, the newly added reservation function allows users to make reservations for rides 30 minutes in advance or within the next 90 days. The two-way evaluation function between passengers and drivers is a niche that promotes the mutual growth of service and ride quality, and even encourages drivers with good service through tipping. As for the implementation of the Uber One membership subscription service in Taiwan, it makes it easier for users to use Uber and Uber Eats services.
Regarding ride safety, Uber offers safety features such as a PIN code in the passenger app to verify whether the passenger has boarded the correct vehicle. Uber also provides 110 emergency assistance, anonymous calls and text messages, trip sharing with trusted contacts, and real-time verification of professional driver identity through AI facial recognition technology. If a trip deviates from the designated route or is interrupted, the driver can also receive system confirmation messages and help notifications through the Ride Check feature. For co-driving and delivery partners, speed limit reminders, a method to avoid sending messages while riding, and message pause notifications are provided to prevent distractions caused by messages during the service process and remind drivers to implement correct driving concepts.
