To promote zero-emission transportation, UberAnnounce将Uber Green serviceIt was renamed "Uber Electric" and simultaneously launched the "Go Electric" subsidy program, providing drivers with a $4000 bonus to encourage them to replace their existing vehicles with electric vehicles. This move is also seen as a response to the termination of the US federal electric vehicle tax credit policy.
Subsidy Program Details
The subsidy program is particularly beneficial for drivers in New York City, California, Colorado, and Massachusetts, who can receive a full $4000 rebate for switching to an electric vehicle. Drivers providing services within the United States can also receive a $1000 rebate for any new or used electric vehicle purchased through TrueCar.
It is worth noting that the subsidy amount is exactly the same as the maximum amount of the federal used electric vehicle tax credit that was recently abolished.
Expanding the battery sensing matching system
Uber also announced the expansion of its Battery Aware Matching (BAM) feature to electric vehicles from brands including Kia, Hyundai, Ford, Nissan, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz, covering 25 countries including the United States and Canada. This system allows drivers to connect their vehicle to the Uber Driver app and only accept trips that match their current remaining range, effectively alleviating range anxiety.
According to Uber data, 49% of non-electric vehicle drivers on the platform are currently hesitant to switch due to battery-related concerns. The expansion of the BAM system will help alleviate these concerns.
Electrification achievements and benefits
Uber revealed that it now has over 200,000 electric vehicles in its global network. In the United States, Canada, and Europe, drivers are switching to electric vehicles five times faster than average car owners. To coincide with the brand's transformation, Uber is offering passengers a one-week promo code, "GOELECTRIC20," which grants passengers a 20% discount (up to $8) on their next electric vehicle trip.
This electrification push not only demonstrates Uber’s commitment to sustainability, but also provides tangible support to drivers at a critical juncture of policy change, accelerating the electrification transition in transportation.
