In preparation for an expected busier year-end holiday travel season than usual, Uber announced the addition of [unclear - possibly a number of services/products].A series of new features targeting gift-giving and ride-sharingThe most convenient update is undoubtedly the new "Send a Ride" feature, which allows users to directly purchase ride credits and trips for friends and family through the Uber App.
Send a Ride: Set the limit and number of uses, then share the link to use it.
The "Send a Ride" feature was designed to address the pain point of prepaying transportation fares, such as airport transfer fees.
According to Uber, users can set the number of trips and spending limits within the app (e.g., setting two trips with a maximum of $50 per trip). Once set, the app generates a link, which users can simply share with recipients.
Once a friend or family member clicks the link, the credit limit will be automatically added to their account and can be used directly for their upcoming trip. This is a very useful feature for hosting friends or family members who have traveled from afar, or for helping elderly people who are unfamiliar with the system arrange transportation.
Uber Ski: Supports bringing your own equipment and integrates with Epic Pass sales.
For winter skiing enthusiasts, Uber has launched a seasonal ride option called "Uber Ski." This service supports travel to and from nearly 40 top ski resorts in North America and Europe.
To accommodate the need to carry ski equipment, users can book UberXL (up to 2 passengers including equipment) or UberXXL (up to 4 passengers including equipment) when selecting Uber Ski in the app. In addition, Uber announced that it will sell Epic Pass ski passes directly within the app, allowing users to purchase ski passes directly to Vail Resorts-operated ski resorts.
Airport ride-sharing expanded; Uber Eats introduces celebrity video greeting cards.
For airport transfers, Uber has also expanded its "Uber Share for Airports" service. This feature allows travelers heading in the same general direction to share a ride home, and it is currently available at more than 50 airports worldwide, with new locations including New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia International Airport (LGA), and Orlando International Airport (MCO).
In response to gift-giving needs, starting in December, Uber will allow users to add video messages from celebrities for free when sending Uber Eats gift orders, including stars such as Megan Thee Stallion, the Jonas Brothers, and Tracee Ellis Ross.
While these videos are not as fully customized as Cameo, the recipient will be able to choose a delivery time that is convenient for them, ensuring that they can personally receive the gift and blessings.
