Uber announcedCooperation with BYDBYD will provide 10 electric vehicles and integrate them with the Uber service platform, allowing Uber drivers to obtain electric vehicles at a lower cost, thereby providing a more comfortable and quiet ride experience. In addition, Uber will also cooperate with BYD to develop self-driving car technology.
The cooperation between Uber and BYD will initially be implemented in Latin America and Europe, with plans to expand to the Middle East, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in the future.
As for choosing to cooperate with BYD, Uber said that BYD's models have relatively low maintenance and repair costs, and it also offers a variety of models with certain quality and good battery performance, making it very suitable as a shared electric vehicle.
In its previous promotion of its service, Uber encouraged more of its partner drivers to use electric vehicles, and also planned to make its service platform carbon neutral. In this partnership, Uber will work with BYD to offer car purchase discounts, assist with financing and loans for vehicle purchases, and provide discounts on charging, vehicle maintenance, and insurance.
This cooperation does not include the United States, which may be related to the US government's increase in import tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles since May this year. However, the European Union has also imposed additional tariffs on BYD's imported products since July. It is not yet possible to confirm how Uber and BYD will adjust the details of their cooperation.
