Uber Eats announced the introduction of several AI-powered applications, from visual content to menu descriptions, to enhance the user ordering experience while also giving businesses greater opportunities to attract potential customers. Uber Eats also added a new "live chat" feature to cater to restaurant communication needs, allowing businesses to proactively contact customers, enhancing order interaction and after-sales service.
Uber Eats has introduced AI to enhance meal images, allowing it to reconstruct close-up photos of meals originally uploaded by restaurants into wide-angle images of complete plating. AI is used to generate appropriate backgrounds and details to increase the appeal of meal images, but whether they will be authentic and accurate remains to be seen.
Uber Eats will also use AI to automatically optimize menu descriptions. Through semantic analysis and generative models, the system will help businesses provide more compelling meal information, making consumers more interested in ordering. Furthermore, Uber Eats has introduced an AI summarization tool that aggregates restaurant reviews to identify strengths and weaknesses, helping consumers make decisions faster and assisting businesses in identifying operational improvements.
However, like many AI applications, the new tools introduced by Uber Eats have also raised some concerns. The AI-generated content may contain errors or "hallucinations." Therefore, the market is still waiting to see whether these features can successfully improve the user experience or are just formal technology application gimmicks.
To rapidly expand its food image database, Uber Eats is also launching a "Upload Food Photos and Earn Rewards" campaign. For items currently without images, consumers can earn $3 in Uber Cash by simply taking and uploading a photo of their meal upon delivery.
Currently, this activity is only open to consumers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. It is expected that through the power of the masses, more meal image resources will be supplemented, and it will also indirectly enhance other users' confidence in ordering.
To strengthen communication between merchants and customers, Uber Eats has also launched a new "Instant Order Chat" feature. While previously only customers could initiate conversations, merchants will now be able to proactively contact them once they receive an order. This allows merchants to confirm order details, address special requests, and even address any unforeseen circumstances, further improving service quality and customer satisfaction.
