Uber announced today (June 6) that it has acquired the local taxi fleet Crown Taxi in Taiwan, and stated that it will continue to deepen its cooperation with the local taxi industry in Taiwan.
This acquisition still needs to be approved by Taiwan's competent authorities. Once approved and the relevant transactions are completed, it will bring a smoother work experience to Crown's professional drivers. It will also allow more passengers, especially those in areas with relatively insufficient transportation resources, to have more opportunities to use Uber's reliable and high-quality ride services.
Margarita Peker, General Manager of Uber Taiwan, said: "Taiwan is one of the most mature and competitive digital ride-hailing markets in the world, and this acquisition of Crown Taxi demonstrates Uber's continued commitment to investing in the Taiwanese market. We have been collaborating with the Taiwanese taxi industry for over a decade, and we are thrilled to take this new step with Crown Taxi. This not only demonstrates our commitment to continuous innovation, but also represents our collaboration with local partners to bring diverse ride options to more people in Taiwan. We look forward to working even more closely with the Taiwanese government and leveraging our social impact, while also making it easier and more seamless for Crown Taxi's professional drivers to join the Uber platform."
"We are delighted to partner with Uber, a global leader in transportation and mobility innovation," said Wu Junde, Chairman of Crown Motors. "This acquisition will provide further development opportunities for our fleet and its professional drivers, while also maintaining the professional image and service quality that Crown Motors has established over the past 13 years."
Crown Fleet was established in 2011 and has been collaborating with Uber since 2017, dispatching professional drivers through the Uber platform. This acquisition, subject to regulatory approval, will allow Uber to integrate its platform and fleet into an integrated operating model, enabling it to compete with other ride-hailing apps (such as 55688 Taiwan Fleet) with its own fleet.
Uber said it will work closely with Crown's fleet management team and professional drivers to ensure a smooth and efficient integration and transition process.
