Uber earlier in the California Supreme CourtindictmentDoorDash, a food delivery service provider, has accused DoorDash of pressuring its partner restaurants to use only its services.
Although Uber Eats and DoorDash both provide food delivery services, the latter has a significantly higher market share in the United States. DoorDash has even stated that approximately 90% of major restaurants in the United States can order food through its service.
In its accusation, Uber stated that DoorDash threatened restaurants that also joined Uber Eats by increasing the commission rate to 30%. Some restaurant owners were even told that if they cooperated with Uber Eats, they would have to pay an additional millions of dollars in fees. In addition, the company threatened to lower the ranking of restaurant owners who also cooperated with Uber Eats, reducing their exposure on the DoorDash service platform.
Uber further pointed out that when DoorDash announced in 2024 that it would increase the commission rate for restaurant owners that also cooperated with Uber Eats, a large restaurant group immediately terminated its long-term cooperation with Uber Eats. Therefore, it believed that DoorDash's behavior seriously affected its market competition.
Therefore, Uber will apply to the court to require DoorDash to adjust its business practices, but DoorDash denies all of Uber's allegations and emphasizes that Uber's lawsuit is groundless.
