After further negotiations with the Ministry of Transportation, Uber announced that it would change its operating model to comply with government policies, cooperate with the taxi industry, and use its own platform to match resources with diversified taxi fleet operators.
Uber emphasized that it recognizes President Tsai Ing-wen's efforts to lead the government in using technology to solve problems, promote the development of new startups, and its determination to incorporate this into the core of transportation policy. It also commended Minister of Transportation Lin Chia-lung for promoting a number of transformation policies, including allowing diversified taxis to waive meters, adopting a "fare advance notice" mechanism, and license activation projects.
In addition, Uber also stated that it will continue to actively cooperate with the Ministry of Transport to ensure that the platform's hired drivers and rental car partners can smoothly transition to the new diversified taxi operation model, especially in terms of obtaining taxi driver registration certificates and taxi licenses, so that they have sufficient time to complete the transformation.
