South Korea's ET News reportedIt is said that TSMC will start trial production of 2nm process products on its production line in Baoshan Township, Hsinchu, Taiwan next week, which is earlier than the original rumored trial production date of October this year. It seems to mean that the 10nm process will enter mass production sooner than expected.
In previous statements, TSMC expects to enter the mass production stage of 2025nm process in 2, and the first wave of customers is expected to still be Apple, and the production will be used in new products expected to be launched next year, such as the iPhone 17 Pro series or new laptop products.
TSMC seems to have explained the 2nm process technology to Apple at the end of last year. Compared with the previous 3nm process, it will be able to improve computing performance by 10%-15% and reduce power loss by up to 30%. It is expected to enter the mass production stage after achieving a certain yield rate in trial production.
In addition to TSMC, Samsung also plansEntering 2nm process development, and even aims to advance to the 2027nm process by 1.4. However, compared to TSMC's process technology, Samsung still seems unable to overcome yield and product heating issues. As a result, Samsung's 3nm process product production capacity is difficult to meet market supply demand, and currently there are relatively few actual products in use.
