Twitter earlier restricted users from browsing tweets without logging into their personal accounts. Elon Musk responded that this was an emergency measure to limit traffic to prevent too many third-party services from abusing access to Twitter data content and affecting users' actual browsing experience.
Elon Musk said that because many companies and third-party services use tools to capture tweets on Twitter to create application services, or conduct research and analysis through tweets, the smooth experience of using Twitter has been affected. Therefore, users are required to log in to their personal accounts to browse content.
In subsequent explanations, Elon Musk stated that users who have not completed personal account verification will only be able to view a maximum of 600 tweets per day, and newly registered users will only be able to view 300 tweets. As for accounts that have completed verification, they can view 6000 tweets per day.
To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we've applied the following temporary limits:
– Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
– Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
– New unverified accounts up to 300/day- Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 1, 2023
However, in a later statement, Elon Musk relaxed the number of tweets that can be viewed. Users who have not completed personal account verification can only view a maximum of 800 tweets per day, while users who have completed verification can view more than 8000 tweets per day.
Although Elon Musk emphasized that this adjustment was made to solve the problem that many manufacturers used Twitter tweets, which affected the efficiency of service operations, he did not disclose the expected implementation time of this adjustment.
