To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Leica I camera, Leica announced the launch of the "100 YEARS OF LEICA" series of limited-edition commemorative products, including the classic M11-D Centenary Edition set, D-Lux 8, SOFORT 2, Trinovid 10×40 binoculars, etc., and simultaneously released the brand's one millionth M-series camera, setting a new milestone in Leica's photographic history.
Leica M11-D Centennial Edition: A Tribute to a Classic, Limited to 101 Sets
As a highlight of the centennial celebration, Leica is releasing the highly collectible M11-D Centennial Edition, limited to just 101 sets worldwide. One of these cameras, serial numbered "#6000000," is the one millionth M-series camera ever produced by Leica. It will be displayed in the Leitz Park alongside the first mass-produced Leica I, Model #100, released in 1925, symbolizing the brand's century of heritage and innovation.
The M11-D Centennial Edition's design remains faithful to the spirit of the original Leica I. Its top and bottom plates are crafted from solid brass, finished in glossy black. The camera body, stripped of its iconic red dot and strap mount, now features classic cross-knurled nickel-plated control buttons, a vintage-style shutter button, and genuine leather upholstery, fully embracing the original's design language. The hot shoe cover is engraved with the "100th" anniversary logo, and the series is numbered from N° 001 to N° 100, with "N° 000" designated exclusively for camera body #6000000.
Attached are two classic lenses to reproduce the century-old light and shadow of Leica
The M11-D Centennial Kit comes with two lenses, including:
• Leitz Anastigmat-M 50 f/3.5: A tribute to the fixed lens of the Leica I camera from early 1925, now reproduced in an M-mount with a retractable lens barrel and an aluminum nickel-silver anodized exterior, a tribute to history.
• Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH.: Inherits Leica's classic large aperture design, with 45 cm close focus and soft bokeh, and incorporates anniversary limited design elements.
In addition, the set also includes a custom leather protective case and SD card storage box, and is placed in a high-gloss black lacquer wooden box made in Germany, perfectly presenting the collection texture.
Three anniversary products are launched simultaneously
In addition to the flagship M11-D, Leica also launched three limited edition commemorative products:
• D-Lux 8 Centennial Edition: Continuing the classic style of the M series, with nickel details, cross-knurled control elements, and a "100" logo engraved on the hot shoe cover.
• SOFORT 2 Centennial Special Edition: Black exterior with glossy black frame and nickel lens cover, with dual-mode instant shooting function.
• Trinovid 10×40 Centennial Telescope (limited to 100 units worldwide): features a black anodized shell and hand-knurled design, with the red dot logo replaced by a white "100" logo, and even the leather strap and protective bag are exquisitely presented.
The commemorative book "100 Leica Stories" was released simultaneously
Leica also published a commemorative book, "100 Leica Stories", which traces the brand's century-long history through 100 iconic figures, images and technological milestones, presenting the photographic changes and cultural influence witnessed by Leica from 1925 to the present.
