Recently announced that since its launch in 1925, Leica's first mass-produced and easy-to-carry cameraI-type cameraAfter celebrating its 100th anniversary and holding a number of internationally influential events in Dubai, Milan, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and other regions, Leica announced the launch of the M100 11th Anniversary Limited Edition to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Leica I camera.
The Leica I camera, which attracted great attention at the Leipzig German Exhibition in 1925, was the prototype "Ur-Leica" created by Oskar Barnack, head of the testing department of the optical factory Ernst Leitz Optische Werke in Wetzlar, Germany, the predecessor of Leica. The prototype design was mass-produced by the company's head, Ernst Leitz II, and later became an important foundation for the subsequent development of Leica cameras.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Leica I camera, Leica announced the launch of the M11 100th Anniversary Limited Edition, with a global limit of 100 units, and the names of different cities specially engraved on its body.
The "Shanghai Edition" is only sold in Leica Camera Greater China. This limited edition camera has many unique designs. The unique engraving on the top of the body includes the words "SHANGHAI CHINA" and the traditional "Leica" handwritten logo.
Technically based on the Leica M11, this camera's design is unmistakably unique. Its glossy black lacquer, inspired by classic Leica M-system cameras, will gradually reveal the brass, acquiring a unique patina over time – an irreplaceable feature that reflects the unique story of each camera.
The camera's bright silver chrome control parts, including the shutter button, switches, ISO dial and shutter speed dial, have been given an exquisite cross-knurled texture design, which perfectly harmonizes with the body and presents a unified aesthetic.
The stylish black cowhide finish lends the camera an elegant appearance, its distinctive texture paying homage to the legendary hard rubber-covered leather of earlier models. Other design details include a black chrome hot shoe cover engraved with the "100th Anniversary" logo, and the red Leica logo on the body replaced with discreet black screws. Limited to 001/100 to 100/100, the camera comes with a certificate of authenticity, further highlighting its exclusivity.
The Leica M11 100th Anniversary Limited Edition "China Shanghai Edition" will be available in all official Leica stores, online stores and authorized dealers in Greater China from July this year.
Leica will also release five other Leica M11 100th Anniversary Limited Editions this year: the Dubai Edition (UAE), the Milan Edition (Italy), the New York Edition (USA), the Tokyo Edition (Japan), and the Wetzlar Edition (Germany). Each of these editions will also be limited to 100 units and will be available only in the countries listed above.
Over the next 12 months, Leica will hold various events in the above-mentioned countries to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Leica I camera.
