Amazon invests in Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup founded by former OpenAI employees$40 millionLater, Google also plans to expand its investment in Anthropic.
According to sourcesGoogle plans to invest $5 million in Anthropic initially, with an additional $15 billion planned for the next phase. Prior to this, Google's parent company, Alphabet, had already invested approximately $5.5 million in Anthropic.
In addition, before Google decided to invest in Anthropic, Anthropic had already signed a multi-year usage agreement with Google Cloud worth nearly US$30 billion to scale up artificial intelligence computing using Google's cloud service platform.
Judging from the investment amounts from Amazon and Google, Anthropic has accumulated nearly $70 billion in funding in the past year and has reached service usage agreements with these two public cloud companies.
Anthropic was founded by former OpenAI employees Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei. It initially relied on funding from the FTX cryptocurrency trading platform until the platform declared bankruptcy, at which point it sought external investment opportunities. Its current market valuation is approximately US$40 billion.
