After last week's small-scale testing (and a few "mistaken releases")Google officially announced today (March 27) that the "Search Live" feature, which features visual recognition and conversational capabilities, is now rolling out to users worldwide. This innovative tool, which combines Google Lens visual search with Gemini generative AI, allows users to simply point their phone's camera at an object or scene in front of them and ask questions in natural language.
At the same time, Google has also fully integrated the "Live Translate" feature, which was originally exclusive to Pixel phones, into the iOS platform, and expanded it to support more than 70 languages, including Japanese, German, Italian, and others, in an attempt to blur the boundaries between the physical world and digital information through AI.
Search Live: An "Instant Encyclopedia" Through the Lens
The core technology of "Search Live" comes from Google's latest Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model, which was designed from the outset to emphasize "native multilingual support" and "extremely fast response," giving Search Live the following characteristics:
• Visual dialogue:Users can ask questions such as "How do I fix this?" or "How much sunlight does this need?" by pointing at an unknown plant by the roadside or a malfunctioning appliance. The AI will analyze the content of the image in real time and provide an answer.
• Natural voice interaction:Thanks to the low latency of Gemini 3.1, the conversation process is closer to human communication, eliminating the noticeable pauses of previous voice assistants.
• Global Coverage:This update is confirmed to cover more than 200 countries and regions worldwide, and can be used wherever Google AI Mode is supported.
Instant translation arrives on iOS: Breaking down platform and language barriers
In addition to the evolution of search technology, Google has also strengthened its translation ecosystem:
• Cross-platform support:The "instant translation" feature, previously more common on Android, is now officially available on iOS. Users can simply wear headphones to hear the translated dialogue instantly.
• Language family expansion:It now supports Japan, the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, bringing the total number of languages it can understand to over 70. It is also compatible with headphones from any brand on the market, no longer limited to Pixel Buds.
