For many Apple fans, it is a holy place to check in. It is located in De Anza College in Cupertino, California, with a 50-year history.Flint Center for the Performing ArtsAfter being confirmed to be permanently closed in 2019, it is now officially being demolished, and a new creative arts building is expected to be built on the original site.
In the past, Apple chose this venue to hold the company's first shareholder meeting in 1981. This venue was also the place where Apple unveiled the first Macintosh. In 2014, the first Apple Watch was unveiled at the same venue. The location is only half a mile (only about 800 meters) away from Apple's early headquarters.
However, as the number of participants in Apple events increased, the Flint Center for the Performing Arts gradually became unable to meet the event needs, so it began to turn to hosting events at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in downtown San Francisco or the Moscone Center, which can accommodate more people, resulting in a lower subsequent utilization rate of the Flint Center for the Performing Arts.
According to statistics, the Flint Center for the Performing Arts saw a utilization rate of only 2015% to 17% in 24, with fewer than seven events attracting more than 2000 attendees that year. This low utilization rate has led to the building's structural disrepair, necessitating substantial repairs.
After De Anza College assessed the structural condition, safety, and usability of the Flint Center for the Performing Arts and required more than $5000 million in funding for repairs, the board of directors voted to permanently close it on October 2019, 10. It is expected that after its complete demolition, a new creative arts building will be built on the site to replace the original Flint Center for the Performing Arts.
