Following the launch of its flagship Xperia 1 IV in the first half of the year, Sony Mobile announced the launch of the smaller Xperia 2022 IV during IFA 5, and confirmed that it will add wireless charging, a function that has never been available in previous models, while retaining a user experience similar to that of the Xperia 1 IV.
The Xperia 5 IV continues its previous design language and uses a 6.1-inch OLED screen design. The display ratio remains at 21:9 and supports a 120Hz screen refresh rate. The body width is adjusted to 67.1mm and the height is 155.74mm. Compared with the model launched last year with a width of 68mm and a length of 157mm, it is slightly smaller and weighs 172 grams. Therefore, it is more comfortable to hold and meets the needs of one-handed operation. It also supports Taiwan's full 5G network band.
The body still retains a 3.5mm headphone jack, and is also equipped with a side power button with integrated fingerprint recognition function, as well as a physical camera shutter button. This time, it is also equipped with a wireless charging function, making it the first Xperia 5 phone to support wireless charging.
In terms of hardware specifications, the Xperia 5 IV also uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, is equipped with 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage capacity, and supports expanding storage capacity via a micro SD memory card. The body also supports the highest level of IP65/IP68 waterproof and dustproof. The battery capacity is designed to be 5000mAh, and it can be charged to 1% in 30 minutes with the XQZ-UC50 charger.
The three main cameras use lenses and, like the Xepria 1 IV, support 4K 120fps video recording, 20 frames per second ultra-high-speed still continuous shooting, eye focus and other shooting functions. The audio system also supports 360 Reality Audio, DSEE Ultimate, Dolby Atmos and other technologies. For gaming, the screen supports 120fps frame refresh rate and the game enhancement mode can also be used to provide a better gaming experience.
In terms of usage functions, the Xperia 5 IV, like the Xperia 1 IV, supports Videography Pro, Camera Pro, and Music Pro apps, allowing users to use the Xperia 5 IV hardware to better correspond to the video recording, shooting, and audio recording functions. It also emphasizes the online live broadcast experience, so it also supports the previously launched external screen accessories and Bluetooth controllers.
The Xperia 5 IV will be available in black, white, and green, with global releases expected to begin in September. In Taiwan, the three colors are known as Creative Black, Vibrant White, and Stylish Green, respectively, and are expected to launch in the Taiwanese market in late September.
