In response to the recent allegations made by Microsoft against the US Federal Trade CommissionTestimony, revealed that they had planned to acquire SEGA, SEGA Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Utsumi ShufumiEmphasize that the company will not be sold to others.
Prior to this, Microsoft had revealed in an internal letter that it was considering acquiring SEGA, hoping to expand the appeal of Xbox Game Pass content by leveraging SEGA's development and publishing assets in series such as "Sonic the Hedgehog," "Ryu Ga Gotoku," and "Persona," while also gaining more development opportunities in the Asian market.
In response, Shufu Utsumi emphasized that SEGA would not be sold to anyone else, but did not respond to whether Microsoft had made an acquisition offer to SEGA. He only stated that the two parties still maintain a good cooperative relationship.
In addition to SEGA, internal documents used as testimony also showed that Square Enix was also a target for Microsoft to acquire, but no further action was taken afterwards.
