The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an investigation into HPE's acquisition of Juniper Networks, a network communications equipment company, earlier this year to determine whether the deal involved market dominance.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority believes that HPE's $140 billion transaction may affect competition in related service products in the UK, so it has launched an investigation into the transaction.
HPE announced in January this year that it would acquire Juniper Networks for $1 per share in an all-cash transaction to strengthen its own network infrastructure technology capabilities while also preparing for the trend of increasing demand for network infrastructure due to the growth of artificial intelligence technology.
HPE President and CEO Antonio Neri expects the acquisition of Juniper Networks to transform the networking market and enhance HPE's importance in the accelerated growth of artificial intelligence technology, thereby increasing HPE's potential market development capabilities. Through Juniper Networks' cloud-delivered network solutions, software and service suites, a more secure and efficient access model will be provided to establish a mission-critical architecture for future digital development and artificial intelligence strategies, and it can also be integrated with HPE's Aruba Networking and artificial intelligence solutions.
After HPE completes its acquisition of Juniper Networks, former Juniper Networks CEO Rami Rahim will be responsible for leading the merged HPE networking business and report directly to Antonio Neri.
