Following the release in June this yearOfficial versionGoogle later released information regarding the Android 16 operating system.Second major updateThis update brings several new AI-driven features to Pixel devices and significantly enhances the system's accessibility experience just in time for International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
AI-powered notification processing and fraud prevention evolves once again.
One of the highlights of this update is the addition of "AI-powered notification summaries," similar to Apple Intelligence. The system can use on-device AI to automatically condense lengthy messages and group conversations, allowing users to grasp the key points at a glance.
In addition, the "Notification organizer" feature automatically mutes and categorizes non-priority notifications such as news and promotions, reducing disruption to users.
In terms of security, Google Messages can now proactively filter group invitations from unknown numbers and offers a one-click blocking feature. Circle to Search has also added a fraud prevention function; users simply circle suspicious messages, and AI will analyze whether they involve fraud and provide relevant suggestions.
Interface customization: Custom icon shapes, force dark mode
Android 16 also further opens up interface customization permissions. Users can now change the shape of the home screen icon (such as square, arch, etc.), and the system can also force the generation of themed icons for all apps, solving the problem of inconsistent icon styles in the past.
In addition, the new "Expanded dark theme" forces apps that do not support dark mode to switch to a dark interface, thereby improving eye protection and saving power. Parental control features have also been integrated into the settings, allowing parents to directly manage their children's screen time and app usage permissions.
Major accessibility upgrade: Gemini voice input, automatic mouse clicks
In conjunction with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Google added [something] to Android 16.A range of auxiliary functions :
• TalkBack in conjunction with Gemini:Through Gemini's understanding capabilities, users can use natural language (such as "change Monday to Tuesday") for voice input and editing, and even ask AI to shorten the message content.
• Guided Frame Upgrade:The Pixel camera's voice guidance can now describe scenes in more detail and provide prompts when faces are detected, helping visually impaired users take photos.
• AutoClick:For Android users who use a mouse, this update adds an automatic click function on cursor hover and supports custom click types to reduce hand strain.
• Expressive Captions: The system subtitles can now indicate the speaker's emotions (such as "happy" or "sad") and ambient sound effects, allowing hearing-impaired users to better experience the atmosphere of the video.
• Call Reason:This feature is currently in beta testing and allows users to mark calls as "urgent" so that the recipient can still see the mark in their call log even if the call is not answered.
These features will initially be offered to eligible Pixel devices before being rolled out to the wider Android ecosystem.
