Reuters news report claimsXiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B said that the company will expand its sales through physical channels in India to boost sales momentum of smartphone products.
Muralikrishnan B explained that Xiaomi has historically focused on online sales. While it also sells products through brick-and-mortar channels, the actual percentage is far lower than online sales. Competitors, on the other hand, continue to strengthen their brick-and-mortar sales methods. For example, Samsung's sales in the Indian market account for as much as 57% of its sales through brick-and-mortar channels.
According to statistics from market research firm Counterpoint Research, only 34% of Xiaomi's overall sales in India this year came from physical channels, with the rest mainly coming from online channels.
Therefore, Xiaomi plans to increase its overall sales performance in the Indian market by strengthening its physical channel layout, including expanding the existing 18000 retail channel channels, selling more Xiaomi products with partners, and hiring more sales staff. It is expected that the number of sales staff will increase by 2024 times by the end of 2023 compared to the beginning of 2, reaching an estimated 12000.
Currently, Xiaomi's smartphone products account for about 16% of the Indian market, and have been surpassed by Samsung with a 20% market share.
