Recently announced the launch of a new body-worn camera model that continues the market demand for Vlog shooting and adopts a newly developed design.PowerShot V1, and APS-C format models designed for portable video recording and incorporating numerous cinematic photography features.EOS R50 VToday (5/6), Canon announced the launch of two models in the Taiwan market.
PowerShot V1
Continuing the market trend of demand for vlogging, Canon's new portable camera model PowerShot V1 uses a newly developed 1.4-inch sensor and continues the appearance design of the series models. However, it does not have an electronic viewfinder. The top hot shoe has been added with a design that can be installed with a digital microphone. The side grips have also been thickened for easier grip. There is also a switch interface below the dial for quickly switching between still images and dynamic videos. There is also a recording button design next to the shutter, and a recording indicator light is installed on the front of the body.
Although it does not have an electronic viewfinder, the PowerShot V1 has a 3-inch screen on the back that can be flipped up to multiple angles. It also supports using the camera as a webcam via USB connection. It can also be remotely connected via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, or wirelessly transmit captured content.
In addition, the PowerShot V1 is equipped with a 1.4-inch photosensitive element with a resolution of 2230 million pixels, and a motion video with a resolution of 1870 million pixels. It can output up to 4K 60p video specifications, or 5.7K 4p video specifications with 30K image quality oversampling, and supports 4:2:2 10-bit Canon Log-3 video format. At the same time, the body also has an active cooling structure and can dissipate heat through the air intake on the left side. The built-in fan can be turned on automatically or manually. The storage media is a single-slot SD memory card design corresponding to the UHS-II specification.
The sensor uses the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF II focusing technology as the EOS R series, which can also improve the focusing speed of human faces, as well as the faces and limbs of cats and dogs. It can capture still images at a continuous shooting speed of up to 30 frames per second, and supports a mechanical shutter speed of up to 1/2000 second. The electronic shutter speed can reach 1/16000 second. It also provides 10 creative filter effects.
EOS R50 V
The EOS R50 V features a DIGIC X image processor and a 2420-megapixel APS-C sensor. Its design is similar to the Super 70mm sensor used in cinema cameras like the EOS C35, emphasizing its suitability for video shooting and greater operational flexibility. The Movie View function allows users to set the viewing angle and frame rate for capturing more cinematic videos.
In addition, the EOS R50 V introduces a variety of Cinema EOS functions available on high-end EOS R series models such as the EOS R1, including custom image and LUT functions. It also supports two HDR video recording functions, HDR PQ and HLG, and supports XF-HEVC S / XF-AVC S video formats. It even adds Full HD image quality, a slow-motion movie mode that slows down time by 1/5 or 1/2.5, and can record in 4K quality at a speed 60 times faster.
The EOS R50 V features a video-focused interface with dedicated buttons for live streaming and color mode, as well as a joystick for zoom control. Canon also released its first powered zoom lens, the RF-S50-14mm f/30-4 IS STM PZ, to complement the EOS R6.3 V, offering even more convenient camera control during video shooting.
At the same time, Canon has also optimized the EOS R50 V for vertical shooting, such as automatically rotating the shooting review screen, making it easier to fix the camera on a tripod for vertical shooting, and making it easier to operate the recording function when shooting vertically.
Like the PowerShot V1, the EOS R50 V also adds a soft skin mode and 14 color filter effects, and can speed up shooting with a dual-pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system. It also adds a movie close-up display mode and Movie Digital IS image stabilization function, and supports the 10-bit Canon Log 3 format for recording higher dynamic range. It can record oversampled 4K 30p video, center-cropped 4K 60p video, and slow-motion video in Full HD 100p or 120p.
In terms of sound, the EOS R50 V has added 3 sets of microphone noise reduction technology to reduce unnecessary noise inside the camera, and also supports LPCM 24-bit 4-channel audio input to simplify the multi-audio editing process during post-production.
For still images, the EOS R50 V can also switch shooting modes using the PASM dial and supports shooting RAW files. It can also be connected to the Camera Connect App on a mobile phone via Bluetooth or USB-C, or to a PC via USB-C, to use it as a webcam for live streaming. It is also compatible with the Live Switcher Mobile Multi-Camera App, which can be connected to streaming devices for multi-angle live streaming.
Other functions include the ability to register priority focus for shooting people's faces, allowing users to prioritize focusing on the target person during the shooting process to avoid missing important shooting scenes, while also allowing the subject to remain in focus. As for the storage interface, it adopts a single SD memory card slot design, supporting SD, SDHC, and SDXC specification memory cards, and supports the UHS-II standard.
Suggested retail price
The PowerShot V1 has a suggested retail price of NT$29900 and will be available in the Taiwan market from May 5th. The suggested retail price of the EOS R6 V body alone is NT$50, and the combination with the RF-S21900-14mm f/30-4 STM PZ electric zoom lens is NT$6.3. It is expected to be officially sold in Taiwan in mid-May this year.
