The theme park's name comes from the first Pokémon game, Pokémon Red and Green (ポケットモンスター赤・绿), released for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1996, and is named after the game's setting, Kanto.
According to the description, the Pokémon Company hopes to use the natural environment of Tama Hills to allow Pokémon lovers around the world, young and old, to experience a space where they can break down national, regional, and language barriers and share the fun.
This theme park was created in collaboration with the Pokémon Company, Yomiuri Land, and the Yomiuri Shimbun. It is operated through a portion of the Yomiuri Land park and a contract company, PokéPark KANTO LLC, has been established to oversee related operations.
At present, the Pokémon Company has not yet announced the official opening date of "PokéPark KANTO", but it is expected to be announced to the public at a later date.
